Program Requirements

 

1.  Conference Attendance


A series of seminars and discussions will be delivered in August. Each seminar is designed to provide the learner with a distinct set of knowledge about different issues surrounding pharmacy education. Participants are required to attend the conference to complete the program.

2.  Teaching Experience

Didactic:  

  • At least two hours: lectures/presentations to health professionals and/or health professional students

 

Experiential: APPE or IPPE rotations 

  • Didactic (6 hours): facilitation of or assessment of learners delivering topic discussions, journal clubs, presentations, debates, etc. (presenting to a preceptor alone without learners does NOT count)

  • Precepting (6 hours): patient care discussions, patient care activities, project supervision

Small Group:

  • At least 3 hours: lab, recitation, and/or small-group teaching within a classroom setting with students 

 

3.  Designate a Teaching Mentor

         
Participants are required to select an experienced pharmacy educator to serve as their teaching mentor throughout the year. Participants should initiate meetings with their mentor at least quarterly. Mentors can provide important guidance and feedback related to teaching experiences. 4.  Submit a Midpoint Evaluation

Participants are required to have a midpoint evaluation submitted by their mentor via Qualtrics by January 15th. Prior to the mentor submitting the midpoint, participants should share their teaching philosophy, prior teaching experiences, growth as an educator, and future planned teaching experiences. Information on how to submit this will be shared in December.

5.  Develop a Teaching Portfolio

Participants will be required to develop an electronic teaching portfolio (NOT Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, etc.) that includes evidence of their teaching experiences, preceptor and student evaluations, narrative self-assessments, and documentation of their personal teaching philosophy. The teaching portfolios will be reviewed at the end of the academic year and formal feedback will be provided by experienced educators.
